Sriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu established the Acintya-Bheda-Bhed principle based on 4 major Vaishnavic principles namely Shuddha Advaita, Dvaita Advaita,Vishishta Advaita and Dvaita of the 4 Acaryas namely Vallabhacarya and/or Visnuswami ,Nimbaditya, Ramanuja and Madhwa and Himself adopted the Brahma Madhwa Sampradaya , the non-Tattvavadi school called Gaudiya Vaishnavism because this thought emerged from Gauda Desha , Bengal. The first disciplic foundation was established by Lord Nityananda in two ways namely through family blood-line and through the intiating Guru Parampara ; the head of the parampara being Ma Jhanava. This is called the Nityananda Parivara. There are 4 other famous parivaras who initiated disciples under the Mahaprabhu sect. The head of these parampara systems were Narottam Thakura Mahasaya who started the Narottama Parivara. Syamananda Pandita who started Syamananda Parivara ; Srinivasa Acarya who started Srinivasa Parivara; Advaita Acarya who started the Advaita Parivara . Thus in the current times there are 5 parivaras prevalent :
Advaita Parivara : In Radhakunda and Nabadweep
Srinivasa Parivara: In Radhakunda and Nabadweep
Narottama Parivara: In Radhakunda and Nabadweep
In Radhakunda and Nabadweep
Syamanda Parivara: In Odisha and Radhakunda
These are authentic Parivaras from where initiation into Lord Mahaprabhu’s movement is deemed recognized by the Lord.
Now we may ask this question.. No member in our current mailing list does not have any experience of these original parivaras. We are only aware of Gaudiya Mutt and ISKCON !!..
The 5 parivaras became operational after Lord Nityananda entered married life and subsequently on his behest and the framework created by the 6 Goswamis the propogation of Vaishnava Dharma was established by these 5 parivaras. During this time many pseudo groups also became popular and these were the Sahajiya groups namely
Aula, baula, Kartabhaja, Neda, Daravesa, Saani, Sakhibeki, Gauranga-Nagari, Chudadhari, Ativadi, Smartha, Jata Gosain etc. These groups had created havoc and Mahaprabhu’s movement was suppressed temporarily because of these sahajiya groups. Thakura Bhakti Binode popularly known as the 7th Goswami came to the world’s rescue. He took initiation under Bipin Behari Goswami who was a direct descendant of the Nityananda Parivara. The Parivara members were Bhajananandis and were just involved with Ekanta Bhajana . Srila Bhakti Binode came out in the open and launched his personal war against these sahajiya groups and his son Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada carried the mantle since the Thakura’s disappearance. New guidelines of Bhajana were established in line with the principles of the Parivars. Since this was going to be a mass movement certain aspects of the original 5 parivaras were not included namely the attainment of Manjari Bhava and Bhava Bhakti process which is deep and very high for general consumption.
New tenets were established during that time. The thread ceremony ( during Diksha) was included to establish that Vaishnavas were Brahmins even superior because of their acceptance of the Krishna Conscious process. The original parivaras even today do not have the thread ceremony or do not invoke a fire sacrifice. These processes were included by Saraswati Prabhupada to fight against the caste model of those days. The main focus was on Hari nama only and the might of the Hari nama was enough to purify the world ( the fortunate ones). Then came the movement of Srila A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The aspects of chanting like 64 rounds set by Saraswati Prabhupada was further relaxed so that even the western world could be included in great numbers. Many aspects set up by Srila Saraswati Prabhupada was also changed depending on time, place circumstances by Swami Prabhupada.
Today the Sahajiya groups are not a challenge nor is there a problem of the caste system. We have been blessed by Srila Saraswati Prabhupada and Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada who have established the holy name in our hearts. It is now time to go back to the roots ; to establish connection with the Parivaras, Nityananda Prabhu who is at its helm. This will allow us to explore the higher dimensions of Bhakti which lies shrouded because the popular movements of the world are in darkness about this Higher Knowledge which is only available with Mahatmas who abound the 5 parivaras. This is not to say that the parivaras are corruption-free..no. However with the purity that has been donated to us by Srila Prabhupada our intelligence is now capable of understanding the nuances of the higher aspects of Bhakti. Its time we mature into serious pursuers of the Absolute and enter the realm of Rasa…
