The original movement

Thanks to the great work carried out by Srila Bhakti Binode Thakhura , Srila Prabhupada Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakhura and above all A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. If these great masters had not carried out their work we would not have had this group. We all owe our allegiance to these great masters.

Having said that we need to become introspective once in a while and ask ..which lordcaitanyachantingmovement? Undoubtedly this is Sriman Mahaprabhu’s original movement. This movement has two aspects to it ; the outward aspect and then the inward aspect. When we talk of the Hare Krishna movement ; there is no shadow of doubt that we are speaking about the “outward” aspect of Lord Chaitanya’s original movement. This outward aspect is more social in nature. It talks of uniting society and engaging them in the service of Lord Krishna. However this movement cannot go far enough; inspite of herculean efforts. The reason being that within each individual there is an entire universe. The social aspect of any individual is much lesser than 1%. More than 99% of the individual is a facade whereby society will not be able to make much about the individual. This means that the “outward” aspect of Bhakti may temporarily create waves however the “inner” aspect of the individuals in the society will soon overshadow such movements!! This is an undulating fact.

Unless an individual attempts to get himself/herself transformed inside out 100% ; there is no question of any Bhakti manifesting in the truest sense of the word. All the Bhakti that we see in the world is only semblance ; a facade. We know that when we dig a little deeper into it ; you will get only muck and nothing else.

The outward aspect of Bhakti was mainly introduced so that by this people may come together in a conducive framework and discover their real self through deliberate endeavors to cleanse the heart; through guidance from God-realized entities available within this framework. Unfortunately in today’s world such guidance is unwittingly rare. Thus the external movements of the world are groping in darkness ; being a part of which there is very little to gain.

However if one changes one’s focus within oneself and make oneself the centre focus ; there is immensity; there is lot to gain! Lord Mahaprabhu’s  internal mood is a shining guideline towards this end. When the focus shifts inward and when one accepts the Gaudiya Vaishnava System as a means for inner purification ; there is gain all the way. The first condition to such a life of inward journey is to first accept a God-realized spiritual master ; a spiritual master who is free from the ills of modern living. One who is free from covetousness and conceitedness . A master who is situated on a platform beyond the modes of material nature. The second condition is to accept oneself as wretched and fallen and unfit for Bhakti. The third condition is to inquire from such a master ways to mend oneself and put before such a master the deepest and the darkest secrets of one’s life and become absolutely naked and then humbly seek guidance.

One should be ready to stake one’s all in following the instructions of one’s spiritual master. As one then starts performing sadhana and Bhajana ; there will be new sets of inner disturbances that will emerge from time to time. One has to be extremely vigilant of these. Like an expert surgeon one needs to identify the knots in one’s heart and hand it over to the Sadhguru and humbly seek his guidance. It is only with sustained and deliberate efforts that the diseases of the heart is removed. In fact Sastras only provide a very hazy framework towards this end . The Sastras also are not very direct. The Sastras may also be applied out of context. Hence there is not much help from revealed scriptures. It is nice to read and revise Srimad Bhagavatham. The question is ; are we positioned on the platform to understand the mood of the Srimad Bhagavatham? The answer is NO. People may argue that reading Srimada Bhagavatham itself has the capacity to cleanse ; this is also revealed therein. Then why do we find that inspite of constant and continued renderings of the Srimad Bhagavatham ; people stand where they were!!

So first things first; let the heart be first cleansed ; removal of those things which are unnecessary and then creating a conducive platform on the heart’s mirror. Then cultivating the right mood to perform Bhakti Yagna and to be able to make “any ” and “every” sacrifice for the sake of Krishna ; so that you attain Him. The Sastras ; mind you are very optimistic about Krishna Prapti and state that in Kali Yuga , it becomes much easier to achieve the Lord. However one has to bear in mind that unless one is one-pointed in cleansing oneself and surrendering oneself to the service of Guru and Gauranga ; Krishna prapti will remain and continue to remain a far-away dream!!
