Bhakti Tattva – Part Five

The Gopis are personifications of the highest mood of transcendental eroticism, which is unknown to an embodied living entity on the material plane. This mood of erotica can have no mundane equivalent and represents the pure milieu of Bhakti Rasa.  This is the pinnacle of “Prayojana” or ultimate objective of the living entities. Sriman Mahaprabhu established this principle through His own life and teachings of which the six Goswamis were successors. About 530 years ago, the inner mood of Srimad Bhagavatham was revealed by the Lord in His most munificent Kaliyuga Avatara form. A special delicacy in the field of spiritualism was thus served by Sriman Mahaprabhu and the most confidential aspect of Godhead was thus revealed by Him.

The Gopis headed by Srimati Radharani tire endlessly to give complete satisfaction to the transcendental senses of Lord Nandanandana. This mood is verily Braja Bhava and extremely rare. Such a mood can only be gotten in the unprecedented land of Sri Vrindavana. This mood is not available anywhere except in the hearts of those who appear on this earthly platform to serve Sri Sri Radha Krishna in Vraja in the devotee line parampara as established by the eternal associates of Sriman Mahaprabhu who were directly the very same Gopis of Sri Vrindavana at the time of the manifest leelas of Sri Krishna in Vrindavana. The mood of such sadhakas who walk the land of Vraja carry within their hearts that fountainhead of nectarine Love for Srimati Radharani which captivates Her paramour Sri Nandanandana, who follows them just as the bumble bee buzzes around nectar laden flowers during spring time.

Sriman Mahaprabhu witnessed Sri Jagannath during Ratha Yatra in the same way as the Gopis witnessed their Lord at Kurukshetra. Jagannath was there with His sister Subhadra but did not have a flute in His hands. The devotional mellow of Sriman Mahaprabhu was that of spiritual sadness of having witnessed the Lord of His hearts in this way. Just as Srimati Radharani ranted with a bumblebee like when she rendered the Brahmar geet when Uddhava had come to meet the Gopis, Sriman Mahaprabhu also mumbled incoherently day and night as he slipped into the deeper realms of spiritual ecstasy.

As soon as He attained His Sanyasa and attained the Sanyasa mantra from Sri Keshava Bharati at Katwa; Sriman Mahaprabhu lost all connections with the external world and floated in ecstasy. He proceeded towards North Bengal ; Radhadesha and walked unabated for 3 consecutive days without any rest; all this in search of Sri Vrindavana and Sri Yamuna devi. He thus proceeded in a spiritual fit towards a land where the Ganga does not flow. Sri Nityananda Prabhu was very much concerned about the well-being of His Lord and bewildered Sriman Mahaprabhu by bringing Him back along the path of the Ganges and declared to Sriman Mahaprabhu that they had arrived at the banks of Yamuna Devi. Thus cheated by Sri Nityananda Prabhu, Sriman Mahaprabhu in a trance, jumped into the Ganges thinking it to be Yamuna Devi. He was later greeted by Sri Advaita Acarya, when the Lord discovered that He was tricked by Sri Nityananda Prabhu. The Lord nonetheless went to Sri Advaita Acarya’s house at Santipura. He accepted alms there. At night all the devotees performed melodious congregational chanting of the Holy Name in the divine presence of Lord Mahaprabhu. There the Lord’s mother Srimati Sacidevi was summoned. She cooked wholesome prasadam for all those at the Acarya’s house. The mother of the Lord of the three worlds remained at Santipura till the time Lord Mahaprabhu remained at the house of Sri Advaita Acarya.
