The Lord Sriman Mahaprabhu bifurcated the entire movement into 2 parts. He appointed Rupa Goswami as the head of the sadhakas at Vrindavana and appointed Sri Nityananda Prabhu as his chief preacher of the Holy Name and sent Him amongst the jeevas or living entities in Bengal to encourage them to take to Krishna Bhajana. Sri Nityananda Prabhu is the very fountainhead of devotional activity and soon flooded Gauda desha or Bengal with the mellows of devotional activity. The two brothers Gaura and Nitai are non-different and each considered the other dear as one’s own life. Lord Nityananda sold Himself to the village folk of Bengal. He would render Himself to anyone who would once utter the name “Gaura”. He thus established the brilliance of Sri Gauracandra. Sri Nityananda delivered everyone in Gauda desha although the entire land was strewn with fallen ones. This was the glory of Sri Nityananda Prabhu; the fountainhead of Love of Godhead.
Headed by Sri Rupa and Santana; Sriman Mahaprabhu entrusted the work of compilation of scriptures. This is the way they served the mission of Sriman Mahaprabhu and helped the sadhakas progress in devotional activity. One can easily transcend the mundane realm by a serious study of the scriptures compiled by the Six Goswamis of Vrindavana. These scriptures highlight the mood of the Vrajavasis and propound the highest spiritual edict based on Radha Dasyam or exclusive service to the divine couple in the mood of the handmaid of Srimati Radharani in the transcendental realm of Sri Vrindavana.Srila Santana Goswami propounded the way of Vaidhi Bhakti through his profound work named Hari Bhakti Vilas. This book elaborates on the Arcana Vidhi and meditational techniques by which Sri Vishnu could be propitiated. The book also delineates the code of conduct for Vaishnavas. Santana Goswami also wrote the Brhad Bhagavatamrta that delineated the form and mood of the various spiritual realms where Sri Vishnu personally resided. The second part of the book highlights the sweetness of the abode of Sri Krishna known as Sri Goloka.
Srila Rupa Goswami compiled books exclusively in the mood of the eternal residents of Vraja Dhama who shared intimate rapport with the divine couple Sri Sri Radha Krishna. These books thus eulogized the mood of madhurya rasa or the mood of conjugal love that attracted Sri Krishna ; the same way as a flower laden with nectar attracted the bumble bee. These works of Sri Rupa is the main essence of the mood of Sriman Mahaprabhu and
constituted the mood of Love of Godhead in its most intimate form. The main books of Sri Rupa were the Vidagdha Madhava that highlighted the pastimes of the denizens of Goloka while Lalita Madhava explored the mood of the denizens of Dwarka which had a mixture of Svakiya rasa or the mood of wedded love which was considered subordinate to the mood of parkiya rasa that existed in the realm of Goloka.Another book of great eminence was the Ujjvala Nilamani that explored deeper into the specific mood of service of the denizens of Goloka. It highlighted the characteristics of the associates of Srimati Radharani and their myriad of services that they carried out in that realm.Sri Jiva Goswami consummated the work of Santana and Rupa especially through his monumental work of Sata Sandarbhas that aligns with the work of his superiors in such a way that the Bhakti perspective could be digested in a better way. The Sata Sandharbha is divided into 6 major sections which are Tattva Sandarbha,Bhagavat Sandarbha,Paramatma Sandarbha,Krishna Sandarbha,Bhakti Sandarbha and Priti Sandarbha. Tattva Sandarbha talks about the Absolute truth as established by the Srimad Bhagavatham which is the most authorized of all Vedic scriptures which points towards the Ultimate reality.Bhagavat Sandarbha talks about the Brahman,Paramatma and the Personalized aspect of the Lord and the modes of material nature.
